Press Release: Forgent Networks announced it has been awarded the United States Patent No. 6,968,064 (the ‘064 Patent) by the U.S. Patent Office, effectively serving to strengthen the company’s intellectual property portfolio and support its strategy of increasing shareholder value through the licensing of patented technology. The ‘064 Patent is entitled “Adaptive Thresholds in Acoustic Echo Canceller for use During Double Talk” and relates generally to echo cancellation in audio and video systems.
“This new patent award is further testimony to Forgent’s commitment to our intellectual property portfolio and reflects our long history of technology innovation and leadership,” said Richard Snyder, chairman and CEO of Forgent. “We believe in the value of creating intellectual property as well as developing the necessary strategies to protect those assets.”
To improve the quality of voice communication, an “echo canceller” is generally utilized to remove echoes and other background noises. This patent provides a method for canceling far endpoint echo signals in audio signals transmitted from a near endpoint to a far endpoint. More specifically, the ‘064 Patent is concerned with generating adaptive thresholds for use in an echo canceller in two-way audio and video systems.
