6 Months of Compression News

Posted by Sachin Garg on 31st December 2005 | Permanent Link

The last 6 months have been very exciting for data-compression industry, and for c10n.info. (No, I won’t be getting into the usual trends-prediction mode here.)

To recap, we had a slow start, and an early slashdot helped boosting the readership. And as the search engines gave more and more importance to us, more and more people dropped by and fortunately some found it good enough to visit regularly (now around 500 daily visitors). The RSS feed subscriber hit counts have been skyrocketing too (1100+ hits daily) . One very important feather in the hat came when Google News guys found c10n.info worthy enough to include stories here in their results. And finally, the recently added Data Compression Newsletter was also very nicely received by those who don’t want to visit daily (and are not RSS savvy) but still want to keep track of things going on in compression (its first issue will be going out within a week).

To summarize, c10n.info has been inching towards its goals of providing an easy means for all of us to keep track of whats happening in the industry and becoming a platform for researchers to announce their achievements to people beyond comp.compression (which is a great place nonetheless). All this wouldn’t have been possible without your support and it will only get better with each passing day.

Keeping track of almost all major events happening in data compression community, we have seen a lot of excitement over last 6 months and the next year definitely seems to be all geared up with a lot of major developments in pipeline, and who knows what all lurks under our radars.

Thanks for hanging-out around here and for all your support, and we promise to keep you updated with you all the news we come across.

Wishing you all a very happy and exciting new year. May you get more than what you dream of, and more than what you deserve ;-) Best of luck.
