New Patent Issued for Clareos

AGIPNEWS: Clareos, a software company that created the first comprehensive enterprise platform for on-demand analysis of multi-terabyte datasets, announced on Thursday that the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has approved the issuance of patent No. 6879984, awarded in 2005, for the Clareos CrossCut analytical software.

According to a press release by the company, the patent covers a variety of techniques used within the Clareos platform that generate up to 50x faster performance over traditional relational database technologies used within strategic business intelligence applications.

Clareos uses a columnar data representation with unique compression algorithms that are optimized for large-volume data queries and disk I/O efficiency. To achieve maximum performance, Clareos is the first technology company to maintain compression throughout the entire query operation process, a significant breakthrough enabling on-demand analysis of multi-terabyte datasets.

Clareos performs analytical queries using multiple CPUs in a massively parallel processing (MPP) architecture. By employing patented algorithms for distributed computation, each CPU is allocated a portion of the query in parallel, vastly improving speed and allowing for near linear performance scalability as new CPUs are added. The software runs on either 32- or 64- bit processors on the Windows or Linux operating systems, and accesses data on either local storage or through a storage area network (SAN).

The combination of a highly optimized datastore and a parallel architecture gives users incredibly fast query speed, allowing insight into more complicated business questions and exploratory analysis.

Russ Rosen, CIO of Rooms To Go, states, “Businesses in our industry generate huge amounts of data, which typically makes it very hard to perform any type of analysis on-the-fly. Clareos CrossCut is the first solution we found that could quickly scale to address even the biggest data sets. It has offered us a tremendous competitive advantage.”
