    David Scott has written a bijective BWT transform, which brings all the advantages of bijectiveness to BWT based compressors. Among other things, making BWT more suitable for compression-before-encryption and also give (slightly) better compression.

    Its old news that China has developed their own Advanced Video Standard to avoid high licensing fees. English translation of the standard is now available, along with the IPR policy. Finally something technical that you can get your hands on to feed your appetite.

TV is getting harder

So, you want to make a modern TV with all the bells and whistles? Take a look at the list of audio and video codecs you’re going to have to support. It’s frightening! You could end up spending more money on CPU and memory than you do on glass!

So naturally, there’s some money to be made her, and Gerald Krottendorfer, CTO of ON DEMAND Microelectronics has a little story here telling you how to do it. Yes, he is plugging his company’s products, but I think it’s an interesting article anyway, give it a read.
