Based on the current barrage of stories in industry rags, it looks like TI is pretty close to shipping their highly-touted DaVinci modules for their C54/C55/C64 DSPs. The stuff they are offering right now includes:
| MP3 Decoder | C54x |
| AAC Encoder/Decoder | C55x |
| MP3 Encoder/Decoder | C55x |
| AAC Encoder/Decoder | C55x |
| WMA9 Encoder/Decoder | C55x/C64x |
| JPEG Encoder/Decoder | C64x |
| On Screen Display Lib | C64X |
| H.263 Encoder/Decoder | C64X |
| MPEG2 Encoder/Decoder | C64X |
This is a pretty useful set of codecs, I know there’s plenty I could do with them. The downside is that TI apparenlty has decided their DPS software needs to be a profit center, so they’re charging $50K/seat for developer’s tools and royalties start at $2.20/part. Ouch.
