  • Bijective BWT (2 Comments)

    David Scott has written a bijective BWT transform, which brings all the advantages of bijectiveness to BWT based compressors. Among other things, making BWT more suitable for compression-before-encryption and also give (slightly) better compression.

  • Asymmetric Binary System (107 Comments)

    Jarek Duda’s “Asymmetric Binary System” promises to be an alternate to arithmetic coding, having all the advantages, but being much simpler. Matt has coded a PAQ based compressor using ABS for back-end encoding. Update: Andrew Polar has written an alternate implementation of ABS.

  • Precomp: More Compression for your Compressed Files

    So many of today’s files are already compressed (using old, outdated algorithms) that newer algorithms don’t even get a chance to touch them. Christian Schneider’s Precomp comes to rescue by undoing the harm.

On2 Technologies Launches Linux Video Encoding SDK for Macromedia Flash Player 8

Posted by Sachin Garg on 22nd March 2006 | Permanent Link

Press Release: On2 Technologies announced the immediate availability of the On2 Flix Engine for Linux. On2’s newest video encoding engine for the Linux platform was developed for the rapidly-growing segment of personal publishing, video sharing and video blogging web sites that are increasingly distributing video content for playback with the Macromedia® Flash® Player 8 from Adobe.

The On2 Flix Engine for Linux extends the Company’s signature high quality and high performance video compression capabilities to these customers while also adding significant new enhancements to boost image quality, compression performance and creative flexibility.

The On2 Flix Engine for Linux provides video-enabled web site developers with a custom-built video encoding solution that can be run locally on a server, or across a network. Currently, these web sites are using large “server farms,” or clusters of networked servers, to encode thousands of hours of video per day. The On2 Flix Engine for Linux enables these customers to manage this volume of encoding while leveraging their existing investment in the Linux operating systems that power their sites.

On2 Flix Engine for Linux ships as a binary shared object and supports access from popular programming and scripting languages such as C/C++, Java, PHP, Python and Perl.

On2 Technologies has developed a number of new performance- and image quality-enhancing capabilities for the Linux Engine, such as:

* PNG image exporting;
* Image overlay;
* Encoder speed controls
* FLV cue points;
* Improved error handling;
* An improved API for developers looking to customize the On2 Flix Engine
for Linux to meet specific requirements of their web site.

Pricing and Availability

The On2 Flix Engine for Linux is available immediately and is priced at $2,500 per server. For more licensing information, please visit www.on2.com.
