WinRAR 3.60 Beta 1 Released
Press Release: win.rar GmbH and rarlab.com are proud to announce the first beta version of the new WinRAR 3.60. Version 3.60 is yet another step ahead for the most complete archiving software on the market.
WinRAR is a 32-bit Windows version of RAR Archiver, the powerful archiver and archive manager. RAR files can usually compress content up to 30 percent better than ZIP files. WinRAR’s main features are very strong general and multimedia compression, processing of non-RAR archives, long filename support, programmable self-extracting archives (SFX), damaged archive repair, authenticity verification, embedded file comments, and encryption. WinRAR is available in over 40 different languages and runs on Windows 95/98/NT/2000/ME/XP. The command line version RAR is available for Linux, DOS, OS/2, FreeBSD and MAC OS X. Pocket RAR, the FREE WinRAR version for Pocket PCs and the new WinRAR for U3 complete the compression product range. So WinRAR simply is “The Size Solution”.
With WinRAR 3.60 beta 1 you can now display the folder tree panel which allows for easier navigation in disk and archive folders.
Of course, as always, the upgrade to 3.60 is absolutely free for all registered users! Upgrading is quick and easy. Users only need to download and install the newest version of WinRAR to continue using the best compression tool around! No complicated uninstalling of the previous version is necessary.
Highlights of the 3.60 (beta 1) release:
WinRAR can now display the folder tree panel:
This allows for easier navigation in disk and archive folders. Use the “Options/Folder tree” submenu to enable the folder tree. It can be configured separately in file and archive management modes. Folder tree replaces the “Browse for folder” command previously available in the “File” menu and uses its Ctrl+T keyboard shortcut.
Multithreaded version of RAR compression algorithm:
This improves the compression speed on computers with several CPUs, dual core CPU and processors with hyper threading technology. Multithreading is enabled by default, but you can disable it in the “General” part of the “Settings” dialog. In the command line mode you can control multithreading with -mt switch.
Now the WinRAR “Rename” command also works with ZIP archives:
Previous versions could only rename files in RAR archives.
These are just some of the features that were added or improved. More information on all of the 17 improved items can be found here http://www.win-rar.com/whatsnew.html.
