  • Bijective BWT (7 Comments)

David Scott has written a bijective BWT transform, which brings all the advantages of bijectiveness to BWT based compressors. Among other things, making BWT more suitable for compression-before-encryption and also give (slightly) better compression.

  • Asymmetric Binary System (116 Comments)

Jarek Duda’s “Asymmetric Binary System” promises to be an alternate to arithmetic coding, having all the advantages, but being much simpler. Matt has coded a PAQ based compressor using ABS for back-end encoding. Update: Andrew Polar has written an alternate implementation of ABS.

  • Precomp: More Compression for your Compressed Files (3 Comments)

So many of today’s files are already compressed (using old, outdated algorithms) that newer algorithms don’t even get a chance to touch them. Christian Schneider’s Precomp comes to rescue by undoing the harm.

  • On2 Technologies is Hiring

Euclid Discoveries makes headlines with vapor

Posted by Mark Nelson on 10th April 2006 | Permanent Link

Euclid Discoveries has been leading on their vast pool of investors for the entire millenium with promises that they were going to do something big, soon, Really Soon Now.

Last month they put their money where their mouth was by, get this, issuing a press release.

An investor who claims to have inside connections with the company told me I was going to have to eat crow when a big Boston Globe article issued this week. I just read it today, and I’m sorry, but it is to laugh.

The article in the Boston Globe is basically a reheated version of the press release with a few stock quotes from the company and their paid minions.

Is it time for someone to point out that the emperor has no clothes? Do the 100+ small investors in this company have a right to see something more than pap? When are they going to tire of being subjected to perpetual mushroom treatment? Why aren’t the stockholders in this company asking the Board of Directors for some accountability?

Oh, I guess Hiawatha Bray must be in league with ED to deceive the investors. Get a life.

  2. Mark Nelson (Ron K. LeMans) Says:

I don’t really understand your comment. Hiawatha Bray is doing what reporters worldwide do on a daily basis - take a press release, dress it up a bit, print it as news. That’s business as usual, no big deal.

Your comment sounds as though you are feeling a bit touchy. I would too, if I had money in a company that had kept me in the dark for the entire millenium and had yet to produce any revenue.
