MainConcept has announced an aggressive new product roadmap. Together with the newly acquired Elecard team, MainConcept has been working for the past few months on a completely new codec lineup. The new message of MainConcept is “Every Codec. Every Platform.” The goal is to offer all of the most-requested codec formats on all of the most-requested platforms.

On the codec side, MainConcept is working on quite a few new codecs: Motion JPEG 2000, DVCPRO100, MPEG-4 Part 2, VC-1, and AAC / HE AAC.

This will enlarge the company’s product offering to: Motion JPEG, Motion JPEG 2000, DV25, DVCPRO50, DVCPRO100, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 Part 2, H.264 (MPEG-4 Part 10 AVC), VC-1, AAC / HE AAC

MainConcept includes robust HD support, including 1080i / 1080p resolution and higher, in all applicable codecs.

A key part of the new product lineup will be the brand-new H.264 Codec. This completely new and rewritten version leverages the joined experience of the MainConcept and Elecard development teams to offer the fastest available decoder as well as exceptional-quality, ultra-fast encoding. This new version is scheduled to be introduced at the IBC show in Amsterdam in September.

The roadmap also includes expanding MainConcept’s offerings to various new platforms. MainConcept was previously focused primarily on the PC platform, however the company is now working to bring its products to all of these platforms including Windows / Mac / Linux / Texas Instruments DSP boards (based on MainConcept’s own hardware) / Philips Nexperia / Intel Xscale

With these new platforms MainConcept will aggressively target many consumer, embedded and professional markets.

“With our newly enlarged developer team we want to bring the highest quality codecs to quite a big number of platforms,” said MainConcept founder and CEO Markus Moenig. “With our product-driven approach we hope to catch large segments of these new markets in a relatively short time.”

MainConcept will begin announcing rollout dates for the new products shortly. Interested parties should contact sdk@mainconcept.de to request info on the availability of a given codec on a certain platform.
